Dingoes live in Dens. Or, at least, their mothers care for them, when they are young and exceptionally cute, in Dens. The Dens are often deserted Wombat holes. The Den is there to keep away big scary snakes who enjoy eating baby Dingoes.

They (Dingoes) eat rabbits and kangaroos. Both of which move with some speed, suggesting that, perhaps, Dingoes have developed either mopeds or cars and are thus able to hurtle at rabbit- or kangaroo-catching speeds, but only when David Attenborough isn't watching.

Dingoes do not have Due Claws.

Dingoes do occasionally climb trees - so it is not absolutely correct to say, as was said on the latest BBCFour edition of Qi, that the more musical but less cute New Guinea Singing Dog is the only tree-climber. It's just a bit better than a Dingo, that's all.

They're descended from the Indian Plains Wolf. They are fiercely loyal, and mate for life. It is not unusual for a Dingo to mourn itself to death after the loss of its partner - refusing to eat, pulling out its own hair...

Like rabbits, all Dingoes have a white bob on their tail.

The next series would be the less without Australia's native doggies??

For sure, neilly, and thanks for that info. There's a monumentally long dingo fence, isn't there? Do you know about that as well?

Oooh ooh, I do. I've been there. There are three fences stretching the Australian outback. One is the Dog Fence and the other two are rabbit proof fences. The Dog Fence was built to keep dingos out of the sheep grazing areas to the south. It stretches from Bight in Western Australia, roams through South Australia, through New South Wales and ends in the bleak scrubs of the Queensland Bunya Mountains.

Estimations of the length of the dog fence differ but its around 5400-5614km long. There is a sign on the fence 138 km from William creek claiming it is 9600km long but it is lying. The Australians will tell you that it is the longest man made thing on the planet and, depending on who you ask, is between two and two and a half time longer than the the great wall of China.

Click the link to hear John Rose play the Dog Fence for 20 minutes. Its eerie.

There was a book called 'Follow the Rabbit Proof Fence' by Doris Pilkington which was made into a film by Phillip Noyce in 2002. It had a soundtrack by Peter Gabriel.

It had Kenneth Branagh in it and is easily one of the best Australian movies of recent years. =)
