in series G episode 8 it was stated that there was no english equivalent of the german word "schadenfreude". i would beg to differ. there is in fact an english word "epicaricacy" which is the derivation of pleasure from the pain or suffering of others. below is a link to the wiktionary page.

OK, but from that very same Wiktionary link

The word is mentioned in some early dictionaries, but there is little or no evidence of actual usage until it was picked up by various "interesting word" websites around the turn of the twenty-first century.

There are many words that can be dusted off large volume dictionaries. The fact is that the german word is in current use but the word epicaricacy is not (at least on this side of the water)
Words such as:
also exist but have little common use today

Zeitgeist anyone?

Incidentally that doesn't get picked up by my/the spell checker for this site.

But that does!

I am aware that epicaricacy is a rare word, however QI is about finding obscure interestingness.

That damn documentary ruined that word for me.
