The biggest-selling book is the Bible, although hardly anyone has read it.

- That is, unless a Harry Potter book or something has out-sold it.

I read quite a lot of it when I was going through my mennonite phase.

OK. do you think it's still the biggest-selling?

Yes
As far as I'm aware it is. I think were a book to overtake it in sales the religous extremists would kick off and the whole thing would be on the news.
Mind you I wonder how close behind it in sales the koran is?

That's an interesting question, actally - QI, in fact! does Buddhism have a book or scriptures?

There isn't a single holy book in buddhism. Just a set of teachings called "the enlightenment" or "Awakening"
I think there is a book called ?? written in Pali (indian language)
But there are many different buddhist sects all quite different in their beliefs

I dunno. It says on the bottom of the home page that there is 1 hidden, 1 guest and 1 registered (that's me). That's all. I'm not bothered about the Qu'ran. Don't put yourself out on my behalf.

Alice,

I'd be interested. There is an obvious argument to say it won't be the best selling, but I'd still like to see the number and who calculated it.

Whover calculated it might be biased - although I doubt it. It all depends on the source.

Now a few years ago now I used to be a regular subscriber to "The Bookseller" at that time (late eighties early nineties) the highway code was the biggest selling book, although of course the english version of the bible has approximately 400 years headstart so perhaps that was just annual sales
