Forgive me for posting a new thread with my first post, but I think I'm the first to bring Stephen Fry's most recent comments to the board:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-11200974

I'm interested to draw attention to the following section of the article:

"Talking about the forthcoming series of QI, Fry said unlike other panel shows the celebrity contestants were not in on the answers - apart from one panellist.

"There's only one regular guest who always insists on seeing the questions beforehand and prepares for them. I won't tell you his or her name," he said."

So who is the offending panelist?!

Just seen that and was wondering the same thing.

must be somebody not confident in their ability to adlib.

I'd hazard a couple of guesses: Jimmy Carr or Rich Hall. But I have no idea.

I'd also love to know who it is. :)

We have encountered this question a couple of times on the forum and are no closer to knowing the truth. Given that they (the "offending" party") are not also given the correct answers I don't see it as too much of an issue.

I'd rather see entertaining responses than the half-thought-out gabbling of a person out their depth.

It's Alan! He goes through the questions and then pretends forgets them to make him seem dumber than he looks. It's a conspiracy between him, the elves, the BBC, the FBI, MI5 and Prince Philip!

J'accuse Mr Stephen Fry esq.

I assumed straight away that it must be Rory McGrath... But a history of cheating on They Think its All Over and a towering points score over the series probably isn't enough evidence.

As for whether it is a problem, sure the humour is more important, but I want to see great ad libing, not pre written jokes. But regardless I don't want to anyone to have researched answers to make themselves sound intelligent/ quite interesting!

Everyone has to do research to make themselves sound intelligent. It's what gets you there in the first place. Nobody is innately knowledgeable*

Plus, you can new the actual answer, and still ad lib around the subject.

*although I can think of a couple of people who seem to think they are.

There's a difference between having something stored in the vast recesses of ones brain and deploying the knowledge when required on a panel game show and simply looking up the answers and writing them on your hand. Inherently knowledgable has no bearing on it!

Oddly enough, I have an idea that Rory was discounted by Those In The Know because he was one of the prime suspects. They wouldn't elaborate, but if I recall, both Rory and John(ny) Sessions were both cleared.

Stephen has since said on Twitter that the person who gets help is not Alan, nor is it Rob Brydon.

What about Stephen himself?

I think it's Rich Hall.

IMO, he never seems to even attempt to answer the questions but rather, appears to just try to be funny. So I could see him wanting to know the questions beforehand, so he can try to come up with something to at least contribute to the show in some way

YMMV

Whoever it is, I wonder if he (or she) will be ticked off if he/she is ever 'outed'? :)
