MY great-great grandfather was keeper of the Sultan's mint in Constantinople. According to family tradition anyhoo.

I had never heard of New Netherland myself!

Must google for other Nether Regions.

Don't forget Nederland, Colorado, the town a few miles up west of me. Yes, up west. I'm at 5,641 feet, and Ned's at 8,233 feet. It's up west, at 40 0′ 10″ N, 105 1′ 43″ W. Not very nether if you ask me, unless perhaps you're coming from a perspective of being above local timberline (about 11,500–12,000 feet.)

Ned is an old mining town, full of hippy-types and giant shovels, now notorious for its Frozen Dead Guy festival. This macabre event is filled with family fun like coffin races. IIRC, at one of the first ones (perhaps the very first), they found yet another frozen dead guy, a reveller who'd had a bit too much to drink and fell over in a snowbank.
