The sands from Alum Bay were the basis for Marmotinto, the creation of pictures from multi coloured sands. Sounds pretty unimpressive but the results are actually quite stunning. See below.

Iron pyrite, used in wheel lock firearms in place of the flint. Fe2S, that's a very fine crystal, wouldn't mind that one on my desk.
