Putting into contention, the 'other' St. Helena Island, home of the remaining Gullah community.

An island with an (as yet) inexplicably pink lake...

Coloured lakes of Indonesia, these ones are volcanic so are probably more explicable in terms of the acidity of the water.

We've inverted. It's islands, not lakes. Unless it's islands in lakes.

I seem to remember something about the name England has nothing to do with the Angles it is actually a derivation of Ing Land where an Ing is a water meadow (or the fields next to a river).

Maine has some wonderfully ordinary island names, Cabbage island and Goat island spring to mind.

Junk of Pork is a good un.

For those interested (perhaps a short list), here are some of the 1,902, starting with Junk of Pork. The list starts with an error. Star Island is in New Hampster.

The list at 742051 omits my Junk of Pork, which by the way, does not include 'island' in its name.

For those who are assiduously checking the list of 1,902, Squaw Island's name has been, or must be, changed. The Maine Legislature several years ago required all geographical names containing 'squaw' to be changed to a name of the localities choosing.

Want to know how consistent Wikipedia is? Take a look at the entries for the Thousand Islands archipelago and Thousand Island dressing. Is it worth digging further for the origin of the dressing's name?

However, the fact (?) that the water was murky (not in the dressing - in the archipelago) until Zebra Mussels invaded is one I find QI. And the island named Just Room Enough.

A thousand natural islands to choose from, and they had to build one...
