According to an ICT dictionary, the abbreviation ICT has a lot of possible meanings. Of course there's Information and Communication Technology, or Interrupt Controlled Transfers, or ...

Lots of initialisms have many possible meanings.

Take "BBC", for example. Usually, it refers to the British Broadcasting Corporation, but it could also be the Bluegrass Brewing Company; the Bombay Bicycle Club; Brown, Boveri & Cie (now Asea Brown Boveri); Blackpool Borough Council; Bournemouth Borough Council; the Brisbane Boys' College; the Banahaw Broadcasting Corporation; the Barrington Broadcasting Company, the Biwako Broadcasting Company; bromobenzyl cyanide; and something unrepeatable in polite company but very common in the porn business.

I can vouch for the Bluegrass Brewing Company making delicious beers. Mmm.

Who knew that that BBC would ever be mentioned on these forums?

Sure, but unlike the mentioned Bluegrass Brewing Company and Bromobenzyl cyanide, the about 8 ICT-related meanings of ICT are all directly related to the same subject, i.e. ICT, and don't share a large part (Broadcasting Company). So International City Train doesn't count, nor does Internal Communication Technology.

I just remembered Interrupt Controlled Transfer, and verified it. It's related to ICT, it exists, it isn't intended to be funny, and it doesn't share a single word with Information and Communication Technology. There are about 6 additional ICT-related meanings of the abbreviation ICT.

Or is bromobenzyl cyanide an ingredient of the Bluegrass' beer? If so, it'll count too.

So where is this 'polite company' then? You're on the QI forums, for heaven's sake. :-)

I am intrigued -- send me a pm, please!

Well, duh. If you're going to limit the acceptable definitions to just the ones that relate to information technoology, then of course all the definitions will be information technology-related.

AcronymFinder has many more definitions of ICT, and that's without adding in the 250 possibilities listed in their attic.

I assume the already mentioned ICT dictionary is limited to ICT-related subjects, so I wasn't introducing a new limit. The beer wasn't respecting that limit.

The AcronymFinder seems to return at least a few of the ICT-related meanings of the abbreviation ICT indeed, not counting the attic's Its Counter Terrorism which scores 5 out of 5.
