Ooh, thanks for that! The test frequencies at the bottom of the page are interesting. Not sure if some of them work properly -- 13 Hz is very quiet compared to the others, and I can't hear anything at all for 12 and 16 Hz.

Despite being nearly 50, I can hear all the frequencies quite well (except as mentioned above). But the higher ones are distinctly uncomfortable, even painful.

Your ears are quite good, I can only hear the 50+ sounds and I am 42 tomorrow. :/ Too many rock concerts..I guess

I can hear all of them except the 16, and I'm 60.

I'm 41, and I had the same result as Jenny. I'm not sure that I'd notice the 17 kHz tone unless I was listening for it; oddly, the 18 kHz one was more clearly audible to me.

Just to put my mind at rest though. Can one of our younger readers please confirm that there actually is a tone to be heard at 16 kHz - no one who has thus far commented has heard it.

Women and children should be expected to do better at this than men, by the way - those groups can hear quieter tones than can men, and can hear higher pitched tones than can men. This was discussed in a thread which was originally about helium but changed direction to be about decibels; the relevant part starts at post 648409.

I can hear that one. In fact, I can hear them all, even the higher tones, and I'm 37! Good job I don't hang around the sort of places that these things are utilised!

Back to infrasound for a mo...

There is some evidence to suggest that the infrasound produced by church organs may be responsible for so-called "religious experiences" in church...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/3087674.stm

It has also been suggested that infrasound on the London Underground may be responsible for many of the "hauntings" that have been reported over the years.

I can hear them all apart from the 18KHz one. And I'm 20, but I'm also a bit deaf and have tinnitus, so probably not the best person to ask. But there's definitely a 16KHz tone.

@Bondee-Yes, there are lots of speculations on this, including ghost sightings:
http://scientificinquiry.suite101.com/article.cfm/infrasound_and_ghosts

If I crank the volume to max, I can hear from 16 and up. Though the 16 Hz sounds different somehow.. I cant understand how these things are legal to use..

I can hear all of them, and they're all rubbish. Which one's going to win the X Factor?

There's evidence that caves used for sacred purposes in prehistoric times (evidence of rituals, paintings, etc.) have specific resonance patterns. Chanting and drumming in these spaces sets up strong infrasound waves. Which, again, seem to cause feelings of awe, otherworldliness, and general "religious" states.

This was ..strange :The William Burroughs/ Jimmy Page Chat:

Could be where all the weapon- myths came from.

This is a paper on Infrasonics by Alex Davies:

There are some suggestion that waterfalls are known for Infrasound and visitors to Niagara has felt nausea, anyone been there or heard of this?

The ocean carries Infrasound in Microbaroms and to quote the Infrasound laboratory in Hawaii:

Re those test frequencies. I could hear them all except the 16 Hz one, whilst the rest of them were a sort of Eeeeeee sound the 16 was a sort of tick-tick-tick. Not too shabby at 47, mind you I was using headphones.

No - the only thing I can report on both occasions of visits to Niagara Falls was a strange and uncharacteristic (well, it's wet) urge to jump in.

@Spud- Yes, that was one of two things I thought about yesterday. I wish that I could credit that feeling to Infrasound in some way.
The other thing, though nothing to do with Infrasound:
Jimmy Page bought Aleister Crowleys house.. What the hell?

"Jimmy told me that Aleister Crowley's house has very good vibes for
anyone who is relaxed and receptive. At one time the house had also been the
scene of a vast chicken swindle indirectly involving George Sanders, the
movie actor, who was able to clear himself of any criminal charges, Sanders
committed suicide in Barcelona, and we both remembered his farewell note to
the world: "I leave you to this sweet cesspool."

@ Samivel: In Infrasonics/Resonance the question is: Who will win the Q-Factor? And will there be Imp-Dancing?
