You would rise above sea level to the same extent you started.

So if the entrance to the hole was on a hill, and the exit was below that level: then you'd pop out the other end to the same hight as the hill.

But I think we're assuming everything is at sea level - which is fair enough - and means dr bob is correct.

I just read an article discussing this very theoretical problem, how long would a journey in free fall through the center of the Earth and out the other side take? It was long thought that the answer was 42 mins and 10 or 12 sec.
