I've just tried this. It's rubbish!

Dog 1 - moderately interested.

Dog 2 - totally ignored it.

I am unable to speak for bears.

Tried interesting dogs with toothpaste, I think - like in one QI episode it said how crazy bears went about the stuff.

Watching a repeat about bears going mad about toothpaste. Alan Davies said it works for dogs, too.

It doesn't.

When we were kids we more than once bought catnip-filled felt mice for a succession of family cats to get ecstatic with, but in each and every case the mouse was comprehensively ignored.

We sprinkle catnip on the scratching post to encourage the cats to use it, and they go nuts for it.

My cat used to be sick around cat-nip. Why is it so "attractive" to cats?

Now that's an interesting question - why don't you do a bit of googling Nat, and see if you can find out?
