6162 is the concatenation of two consecutive integers, 61 and 62; it's also the product of two consecutive integers, 78 x 79 (and thus a pronic number). No other four-digit number has both these properties, though a couple of two-digit numbers do (12 = 3 x 4 and 56 = 7 x 8).

This is purely an observation of my own - I can't tell you if there are any higher numbers with both properties, nor do I know if anyone's researched it.

The delightfully named ANNA (Association of National Numbering Agencies) sounds as though it might be responsible for all the reference numbers in the world. Actually it operates within the field of stocks, bonds and investment funds, where a unique identification code is assigned to each new security as it is issued. It was responsible for the global adoption of a common standard for identifying securities, the ISIN (International Securities Identification Number) according to ISO Standard 6166.

6174 is perhaps one of the most remarkable four-digit numbers in respect of its mathematical properties. It's sometimes known as "Kaprekar's constant" after the Indian mathematician D.R. Kaprekar, and has been previously discussed in this thread from 2008.

1. Take any four-digit number, using at least two different digits. (Leading zeros are allowed.)
2. Arrange the digits in descending and then in ascending order to get two four-digit numbers, adding leading zeros if necessary.
3. Subtract the smaller number from the bigger number.
4. Go back to step 2 and repeat.

The above process will always reach 6174 in at most seven iterations, and then stays there permanently. Here's an example starting with 3524:

5432 2345 = 3087
8730 0378 = 8352
8532 2358 = 6174
7641 1467 = 6174 (and so on).

The corresponding constant for three-digit numbers is 495, which I'm pleased to see I remarked on in post 1029335 back in 2013!

There's more about 6174 (and 495) in this article, which points out that only three-digit and four-digit numbers have this unique "kernel" - numbers of other lengths have either more than one kernel or no kernel at all.
