An extremely serious virus affecting 0.6 percent of the world's population, most of them in sub-Saharan Africa.

Perhaps a cure?

Generally a precursor to AIDS - or GRID as it used to be known while we were ignorant.

My favourite comment on AIDS and HIV comes from Bill Hicks, who said that once it is cured, "they'll be f***ing on the streets."

Scientists find new strain of HIV linked to gorillas.

But researchers have now discovered an HIV infection in a Cameroonian woman which is clearly linked to a gorilla strain, Nature Medicine reports.

First Simian (SIV), now gorilla (GIV).

When will birds and swine get in on the act?

Oh, back to how it was before this all started, then.
Happy days.

There's nothing like nostalgia. Nothing.

Like some other things like the meaning of fanny, AIDS is different in the UK and USA. Some of the symptoms/acquired diseases fall into the HIV category and some into the AIDS category and these are different in the two countries so its possible to die of HIV related illness if you are from one of the two where you would die of AIDS if you lived in the other or even 'advanced HIV' if you have a funny doctor... I wish I could find my source for this as it was quite interesting but me trying to remember isn't I'm afraid!

It's not as good as it once was though.

The results of a promising looking trial of a HIV vaccine have just been published. BBC news article.

It's a start, but it needs a bigger trial because you can't ethically give people HIV, you have to wait for them to catch it. So out of the 16,395 participants, only 125 actually got HIV, in a 51/74 split in the vaccine/control groups. So encouraging, but it still might have been a fluke.
