While we're here I think I should say that it would be better if you actually posted something about these topics rather than just typing the word in gameche. There may be something interesting to say about some or all of the topics but the general idea is that if you start the thread you should begin it by contributing something interesting rather than just noting the existence of, say, hamburgers. On the subject of hamburgers you've double-posted that topic btw - any chance you can remove one of them?

Thanks Cel, I have just found the place littered with random posts and thought the same thing.

Now we have a challenge to come up with something interesting for each of them. I've had a crack at a few, who's going to tackle the others?

It used to be such naughty fun to type in "7734" on your newfangled calculator and turn it upside down and show it to people. Ah, those devil-may-care halcyon days of youth.

Just did it now, actually, and it's somewhat less thrilling than I remember :-)

That has to be worth a lol! I seem to remember that some of the boys in high school found it oh so amusing to do 58008 ...

There is a lovely place called Hell, Michigan

With a two interesting stories on how it received it's name

Wiki wrote:
The first holds that a pair of German travelers stepped out of a stagecoach one sunny afternoon in the 1830s, and one said to the other, "So schön hell!" - translated as, "So beautiful and bright!" Their comments were overheard by some locals and the name stuck.[1]
The second holds that after Michigan gained statehood, George Reeves was asked what he thought the town he helped settle should be called, and replied, "I don't care, you can name it Hell for all I care." The name became official on October 13, 1841.[2]

I remember it being 5318008.

Then of course came the TI-83 calculator, on which it is possible to write in actual letters.

just to add a further idea to what appears to be an opening to a pointless thread:

I believe "hell" originally meant "pit" or another term for death/burial, and eventually the term evolved into the religious/modern english meaning.

I think theres a goddess called Hel, quite a dark figure.

Thas all I remember on "hell". :)
