well the a series should have been longer as I'm sure things beggining with A were missed out, especially if you throw in some intresting foreign words.

Carl

What a brilliant result!

Many congratulations (and heartfelt thanks).

I think we should all now write to the Controller of BBC2, Roly Keating asking him to repeat Series B and C (and the remaining 5 unrepeated shows from A) on BBC2.

Anyone who lives abroad and can't (legally) see QI should write to:

John Smith
Chairman and Chief Operating Officer
BBC Worldwide Limited
Woodlands
80 Wood Lane
London W12 0TT
UK

and

David Ellender
FremantleMedia Ltd.
1 Stephen Street
London
W1T 1AL
United Kingdom

I just don't see us getting 12 shows out of the letter X.

Use your imagination Flash - X-files, X-factor, algebra (couldn't be done without the letter X, obviously), X-cellence, ex- anything you like. I have implicit faith in the talent of the elves.

algebra can be done without the letter x, many a time I've had algebra to do without other letter x.

In fact the use of 'x' as the symbol for an unknown quantity in algebra always seemed perverse to me as it's the only letter which could be confused with a mathematical symbol (the one for multiplication).

In the dear dead days almost beyond recall when I did algebra at school, we were taught to write it with a curly handwritten x to distinguish the two from each other. We always wondered - why not just use a different letter? In fact, why did x come to be used in that metaphoric kind of way?

yeah I was taught to draw x in a curly way to distingish it and it did get used allot, but the point with algebra is that it is theretical maths so that all that matters is that you don't use any numbers. I was odd in that I felt more comfortable with algebra than any other type of maths.

I write with a curly x anyway, having been taught to write in cursive at a very young age and never being rid of the habit.

when you say write do you mean "cut out letters from magazine/newspaper headlines and stick them in an order to create a series of threatening words"?

Because that runs the risk of being counter productive.

X marks the spot, Xylem, Xylophone, X-Rays, Xylene, Xerxes (two for the price of one there), Xerox, the X Chromosome, Xerophyte, Exetetra.

If they really do get that short of ideas, combine X Y & Z to make one show.
