From my days on the Liverpool Daily Post and Echo:

Dictation received on the in memoriam classified line was '....gladly, the cross I'd bear...' this was rendered in print as '.....Gladly, the cross-eyed bear...'.

Another day the classified line prompted a call from the RSPCA after we published an advert for a 'box of puppies, ready now'. Apparently one is not allowed to advertise them in bulk in such a manner.
Upon investigation, our telephonist insisted that the caller had said exactly that: 'Boxer puppies, ready now.' The Scouse accent does help.

It took me a while to realise she was confusing "cannibals" with "cannonballs".

Pulled this off a profile:
Quote:
You think of time as a progress, as something like a stairway. The very thing you use for time is round. It just goes round. Look at the stars isn't everything going round. It isn't going anywhere expect round .
- Watts

Otherwise, a brilliant quote from a personal hero.

From bemadaughter, just for a change:
"They think the mum's finished welding now", when relaying news about a dog* that had just had puppies.

*yes, I know that should be 'bitch' but that just sounds offensive to my ears.

Don't think so, as the bitch just had the puplets.

Correctamundo.

I liked the image of Ms Dog in a welding helmet, wielding whatever it is that welders wield.

But would she wield welding welds well while whelping?

Thanky, 'yorz. I have never heard that word. Maybe not so much a malapropism as simply an ignorant back formation, but....

One of our new, young employees from Alabama is often confidently using the word, 'revision'....as a verb. He's now trained another new, young coworker into saying it, and I have to listen to long conversations about "revisioning" and "revisioned" that drive me absolutely bonkers.
