I have to say that I don't entirely see why that story is such big news - it must be a slow news day.

In point of fact, a high proportion of 13 year old boys are capable of fatherhood - the median age at which a boy first produces viable sperm is reckoned as 13 years 7 months (Mol, 2002, data collected in the Faroe Islands). The youngest spermarche on record was at 9 years 6 months (Adams, 2000, data collected in Canada).

And a moment's Googling produced this story from The Independent of 21 Jan 1998 about a boy who became a father at the age of 12, having impregnated his girlfriend when he was 11.

It seems more news to me (but it is a slow news day I suppose..) having only just stopped being 13.

Ah yes, good point!

I can't really remember being 13 - I think it was sometime between the dinosaurs going extinct and Noah's flood - but I certainly couldn't have imagined making a baby at that age.

But all the boys ion your class were (being 13) imagining little else. T'is in the nature of being boys.

If you did go for the Greek so close to a conversation about a 13 year old Father I'd have to put my judgemental hat on, :) but I am glad. :)

Alan Davies appears in this week's edition of "Popbitch".

A writes
"I saw Alan Davies getting into a spot of bother
outside the Junction pub, near Highbury. He
appeared to have made some "friends" in the pub
during the Arsenal game but things turned sour
when their attentions started to annoy him.
Davies left the pub but one guy followed him
out and appeared very angry. The guy very clumsily
knocked Davies over and aimed a kick. Davies
wasn't hurt. The attacker was then wrestled to
the ground by Davies' mates. He (the attacker,
not Alan Davies) then burst into tears, which
was really amusing."
