Reviving this based on the post name, not the resulting topic...

Ahh, Pac-Man, a classic game. I can't say I ever particularly liked playing it but it really is iconic. The Pac-Man Dossier contains lots of quite interesting* info about the game...

The ghost names are well known (Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde) but do you know what makes them different? I have a funny feeling that Alan would be able to name the ghosts.

What's the highest achievable score? That would make a good tie-breaker: closest to the highest possible score wins.

* - Perhaps most interesting for geeks

KLAXON!

You've broken the 11th Commandment - thou shalt read previous posts before making a numpty of yourself.

KLAXON!

There were hundreds more than 10 commandments - it's in the book

Then there HAD to be an eleventh. If there were only ten, there could not be an eleventh.

Yeah, but the 11th is already a commandment and i doubt the bible says 'thou shalt read previous posts before making a nupty of yourself'

As far as I'm aware, the commandments in the Bible are not actually numbered. So you can't say which is the '11th' one. Also, Southpaw did not specifically mention Biblical Commandments.

It's all explained further up this very thread.

Two games I remember from my childhood which seem to have disappeared:

Swingball - which is a tennis ball on a length of string attached to a helix on a post which was surprisingly entertaining to play.

And

Going - a plastic rugby ball with two lengths of string threaded through it. By pulling the strings apart you could project the ball along the length of the strings to the person standing at the other end who then did the same and hours of fun were had by all.

I remember playing both of those in my childhood, and I'd say that if you asked the majority of my peers they'd remember at least swingball. So if they've disappeared it's quite recently.

I played that with a sponge ball you dunk in water

I remember both games too. I was quite a legend at swingball in my time.

Another outdoor toy of the same era was a lolo ball, basically something that resembled the planet Saturn, where you stood on the disc, gripped the ball between your feet and bounced.

'pogo sticks'

Never got the hang of them. I either fall on my face or stick my head through the garage roof

Swingball still exists but possibly only in generic form. I can't remeber what the version we have at home but it's only a couple of years old. There's also a talking football version of it promoted by a professional footballer, but his name escapes me. Michael Owen or something maybe?

Swingball is still about - we have 4 swingball sets in school. My parents bought one for their 50th birthday party as well.

In the US it seems they are more likely to play tetherball than Swingball.
