I'm with Alf on this, and go further: anyone who is familiar with Beau Geste would know that he's English, and the condition of being unfamiliar with Beau Geste couldn't be described as 'stupidity' by any definition of the word that I can think of.

A more interesting question, perhaps: have there ever been any French people called "Beau"?

I thought I'd get BEEPED for that, I can't look at your proof, as my work net, filters it as being bad and naughty.

Is it just YouTube that blocks your videos. Can you view them on another site?

Got one:
Quote:
The four stroke (Otto) engine was originally propesed by a Frenchman called Beau de Rochas in 1862.

(which implies that there must be others, I guess)

I think you may be excused that particular minus point. Although Dr Bell left Britain at the age of 23 never to return and lived in Canada for the last 52 years of his life, so our claim to him is not an outrageous one.

That makes him as Scottish as a Scottish thing; so, hand him back immediately. He is as Scottish as porridge, tartan, haggis and whisky and I will not hear another word against him.

I think that we Scots can also lay claim to Tommy Douglas, Sir John Macdonald (1st PM of Canada, born in Glasgow) and Sir Sandford Flemming (engineer and inventor, left Scotland for Canada at 17)and others.

We could also have a claim on a fair few great Aussies, including Mary MacKillop's parents, Bon Scott and several PMs. According to wiki over 400,000 Aussies were born in Scotland, and over 7 million claim Scottish heritage.

I think claiming people on the basis of where their parents were born is a bit straw-clutching...

Ok, you can have Mary MacKillop back, but we keep Bon Scott.

Shhhh. What you say may well be true, but my claim to be Polish is based on two of my grandparents having been born in territory which now forms part of Poland. (It was actually in Prussia / Germany when they were born there.)

And while my forthcoming application to become British will be based on residency and marriage, my right to live in the United Kingdom is based on my mom having been born in Edinburgh.

We get both Angus and Malcolm Young too, as they were both born in Glasgow.
