Can't think for the life of me why I haven't thought of her before, but shall we send in our demand for

Maureen Lipman?

I mean, she's intelligent, she is witty in conversation. I just reckon she would be a gem amongst gems in QI.

Stefan.

I've not seen her for ages but I agree. Is she pushy and loquacious enough to avoid being pushed into the background though?

Absolutely. She was a guest on the new series of Would I Lie To You? (that I keep mentioning I saw filmed but hasn't yet been broadcast :P), and she certainly held her own on that. Also having seen her appearance(s?) on HIGNFY I would say that, on the whole, she is cut out for this sort of thing :)

She's fabulous and she comes from Hull - what more could there be to recommend her?

I'll second/third/however many it is Maureen Lipman.

She's one of the few people that both me and my mum like. And author of one of the few autobiographies that I've borrowed from my mum.

Fourthed!

I don't think there will be any problems with the gobbiness side of things.

You're right there, Davini. The "Jewish mother" side of her would come out if any of the others got a bit too overbearing.

I saw an old episode of The Sweeney that she was in not long ago. She was playing a bored housewife type, trying it on with Carter.

When last heard of, she was alive and well and living in Penzance, I am pleased to say.
She's been on the telly recently with Giles Coren, "The Supersizers Go Large" - they lived for a week in each of WW2, the Restoration Period, and I think this week they're in Georgian times? Can't quite recall. Anyway, she's only my age (slightly younger - sniff! As is Giles Coren, which surprised me greatly. He's evidently lived hard), so she's highly likely to be alive and well.

EDIT - I just noticed swot's already mentioned The Supersizers.

:D She's marvellous on The Supersizers go... too. So's Giles Coren actually, can we have him too.

While we're at it, Victoria Coren could be on it as well. Possibly not on the same show, unless you wanted to do a sibling special.
What a shame Alan Coren died, then we could have had 3 Corens and Alan Davies.

Has Tony Hawks ever been on?

I also thought Stuart Maconie and Mark Radcliffe would be quite funny.

Hawks has not appeared yet. I would agree that any of them would be a good guest.

I emailed Tony Hawks recently about his books, and he said that he was easing off television work, so we probably won't see him anytime soon.

I doubt we could afford the obscenely large fee he'd expect.
