Seeing the headlines about the NHS withdrawing funding for homoeopathic treatments made me wonder:

Surely they could reduce the funding to a single pound per year and the homoeopathic treatments could still continue, funded by the molecular memory of the funding that was previously present...

It was Catholic doctrine to eat fish on Friday as penance because that was the day the lord gave his life/ went into a three day coma for our sins. As to why eating fish should be penance, I can only assume that whoever had that idea was far, far away from any body of water. Unless it works in a fish = Jesus = Eucharist kind of a way.

My thoroughly heathen family eat fish on Fridays because that's when the village market is on.

Old news to dr.bob and some others, no doubt, but I still find it quite staggering that what was originally thought to be twin quasars is actually the same quasar seen twice. The double image is the result of gravitational lensing, but the bit that I find mind-boggling is that the light taking one path travels 1.1ly longer than that taking the other. This results in a delay of 14 months; or to put it another way, were something cataclysmic to occur to that quasar we'd see it twice, 14 months apart.

So, if someone on a planet circling that quasar was following a TV series broad as from Earth, and they missed an episode, they would have to wait 14 months before seeing it again?
Spud wrote:
No - the omnibus edition is broadcast on Saturdays.

In any case, they won't be seeing it for quite some while yet. 7.8 billion years, approx.

Typical. Wait 7.8 billion years for an omnibus, then two come along at once.
