I pretty certain it is not called 'Pumice Stone'. 'Fallen Leaves' is much more likely....

RICKY66 gets the biscuit, it is a weld between two pieces of medium carbon steel.
The quite interesting feature of this particular joint is that the interface has the form of a sine wave - would anyone care to venture a guess as to how this occurred?
