Question: How many people have died in the last 29 years as a result of the three mile island disaster in the US?
Forfeit: Any number
The whole thing was a completely over-hyped piece of scaremongering.
The TMI 2 accident caused no injuries or deaths. In addition, experts concluded that the amount of radiation released into the atmosphere was too small to result in discernible direct health effects to the population in the vicinity of the plant. At least a dozen epidemiological studies conducted since 1981 have borne this out.
Three Mile Island should really have been an excellent example of how safe nuclear power is. Although the report into the accident identified various human and design failings that were later improved, ultimately a meltdown was contained within the containment building, as it was designed to (hence the name). This prevented any major leak of radiation into the environment and saved many lives.
also the fact that the biodiversity of Chernobyl has improved since their disaster.
