TIL that English cats can live half as long again as German cats (although AFB may disagree).

Well, not in terms of days/months/years. I'm told by one source that, while Brit moggies have nine lives, German ones have only six, and that it's all to do with assonance (nine lives, sechs leben), since it's obvious that each cat really has but one life. However, another source says that German cats have seven lives (sieben leben) which looks quite sort-of assonant to me. But apparently they have only six lives if they are Turkish or Arabic.

Dutch cats, I believe, have nine lives, as well, "negen levens", whereas dogs have seven, "zeven", and in schoolyard wisdom it had to do with life expectancy compared to us humans. "My" cat lived to the ripe old age of seventeen, before age-related maladies inspired my parents to let her go to the eternal catnap.

TIL that the first cup of tea recorded as having been drunk in Britain was drunk not in London but in Yorkshire!

And us Yorkshire people have been doing it ever since!

Thanks to monz, TIL about the medicinal properties of spider webs:

In traditional European medicine, cobwebs were used on wounds and cuts and seem to help healing and reduce bleeding. Spider webs are rich in vitamin K, which can be effective in clotting blood. Webs were used several hundred years ago as gauze pads to stop an injured person's bleeding.

which led me to:

Wiki on cobweb painting

As for the oldest spiderweb ever:

I also learned about the term 'Macaronesia' to refer to the Azores, Madeira, Canary Islands and Cabo Verde.

Got me wondering whether there are any more '-nesia's out there beyond:
